Research Interests

Professor Louise Edwards is Director of the UTS China Research Centre and Convenor of the Australian Research Council's Asia Pacific Futures Research Network (http://www.sueztosuva.org.au/). Her current research explores women in politics in China and gendered cultures of war in China. She also maintains a bibliography of women in the Australian Army (http://www.iis.uts.edu.au/research/women_army/indexpage.html). Previous research included Chinese literature and intellectual history. Her most recent publications have focussed on the history of the women's suffrage movement during the first half of the twentieth century. Louise Edwards is able to provide supervision in the areas of gender in China as well as broader social and political studies of China from the Qing through to the present. Her new book "The Politics of Dress" with Mina Roces is the subject of a special issue of the International Institute for Asian Studies newsletter at http://www.iias.nl/?q=newsletter-46
